Full Moon in Scorpio Flower Moon May 2nd 2026

The full moon on Saturday, 2 May 2026, reaches its peak in New Zealand at 5:23 am, bringing a powerful moment of illumination, reflection, and emotional release.

This May full moon is traditionally known as the Flower Moon, a name connected to the abundance of flowers blooming in the Northern Hemisphere at this time of year. Here in New Zealand, however, May carries a very different seasonal energy. We are moving deeper into autumn, a time of cooling air, slower mornings, falling leaves, and natural release.

Rather than forcing the energy of spring growth, this moon invites us to work with what is present in our own season. It is a beautiful time to pause, soften, and ask:

What am I ready to let go of?

What truth is becoming clear?

Where do I need deeper emotional honesty with myself?

The Energy of the Scorpio Full Moon

This full moon falls in Scorpio, a water sign often associated with depth, transformation, emotional truth, and the unseen layers of life. Scorpio energy does not usually skim the surface. It asks us to go inward and notice what has been hidden, avoided, or quietly waiting for our attention.

Full moons are naturally times of illumination. Emotions can feel heightened, dreams may feel stronger, and inner knowing can become harder to ignore. With Scorpio’s influence, this moon may bring awareness to old patterns, energetic attachments, fears, grief, desires, or emotions that are ready to be acknowledged and released.

This does not need to feel heavy. It can be gentle. Sometimes healing begins simply by being honest with ourselves.

You may notice this full moon bringing up themes around:

  • Emotional release

  • Personal transformation

  • Energetic clearing

  • Boundaries and protection

  • Trusting your intuition

  • Letting go of what feels heavy

  • Reclaiming your personal power

  • Reconnecting with your deeper self

Scorpio energy reminds us that release is not an ending without purpose. It is part of transformation.

A Southern Hemisphere Reflection

Although this moon is often called the Flower Moon, here in Aotearoa, New Zealand, we are in autumn, not spring. Nature is showing us a different kind of wisdom.

The trees are not blooming outward. They are releasing. The light is softer. The evenings arrive earlier. The energy around us is quieter and more inward.

This makes the May full moon a beautiful time for grounding, cleansing, and emotional reset. Instead of asking, “What am I growing?” you might ask, “What am I ready to put down?”

Autumn teaches us that letting go can be sacred. It creates space. It returns us to what is essential.

Crystals to Work With Under the Scorpio Full Moon

Crystals can be supportive tools during a full moon, especially when used with clear intention. You may like to hold your chosen crystal during meditation, place it beside your journal, wear it as jewellery, or keep it near your bed or altar space.

Amethyst

For calm, spiritual clarity, emotional purification, and quiet reflection. Amethyst is a beautiful stone to work with when emotions feel heightened or when you need support returning to centre.

Smoky Quartz

For grounding, energetic clearing, and releasing heaviness from the body and aura. This is a supportive crystal for letting go of old energy and feeling more anchored.

Obsidian

For protection, truth, and deep shadow work. Obsidian can help bring awareness to what is hidden, making it a powerful crystal for Scorpio moon energy. Use gently and intentionally.

Labradorite

For intuition, transformation, and inner guidance. Labradorite is often connected with the unseen and can support you through periods of change or energetic transition.

Rose Quartz

For heart healing, softness, compassion, and emotional support. If this full moon brings up tender feelings, Rose Quartz can help you meet yourself with gentleness.

Clear Quartz

For cleansing, clarity, and amplifying intention. Clear Quartz can be used alongside other crystals or on its own when you want to bring focus to your full moon ritual.

Simple Full Moon Ritual for Release

You do not need anything complicated to connect with the energy of the full moon. A simple ritual can be just as powerful when done with presence.

You may like to gather:

  • A candle

  • A journal and pen

  • One or two crystals

  • A quiet space

  • A bowl of water or a small dish for symbolic release

Begin by taking a few slow breaths. Hold your crystal in your hand and allow yourself to settle.

Then write down anything you feel ready to release. This may be a pattern, emotion, fear, attachment, belief, or situation that no longer feels aligned.

You might use these prompts:

What has been feeling heavy lately?

What truth am I ready to admit to myself?

Where am I being asked to create stronger boundaries?

What part of me is ready to transform?

What am I choosing to release under this full moon?

When you feel complete, place your hand over your heart and say:

I release what is no longer mine to carry. I return to myself with clarity, softness, and strength.

You may like to keep your paper in your journal, tear it up, or safely dispose of it as a symbolic act of release.

Cleansing and Charging Your Crystals

The full moon is also a beautiful time to cleanse and recharge your crystals.

You can place your crystals somewhere safe in the moonlight, such as a windowsill or sheltered outdoor space. Let them rest overnight with the intention of clearing away old energy and refreshing their natural vibration.

Because this moon carries deep Scorpio energy, you may like to set a specific intention before placing your crystals out, such as:

May these crystals be cleansed, cleared, and restored.

May they support me with protection, clarity, and emotional balance.

Always check whether your crystals are suitable for water or outdoor exposure before cleansing them. Some stones are delicate and are best cleansed by smudging, sound, moonlight, or intention instead.

Full Moon Journal Prompts

Use these prompts during the days around the full moon:

  1. What emotion have I been avoiding?

  2. What am I ready to release from my energy?

  3. Where do I need to be more honest with myself?

  4. What boundary would support my wellbeing right now?

  5. What part of me is transforming?

  6. What does my intuition already know?

  7. How can I move forward with more self-trust?

A Gentle Reminder

Full moons can feel emotional, especially when they fall in a sign as deep and intuitive as Scorpio. If you feel more sensitive than usual, try not to judge it. Give yourself space. Drink water, rest, journal, cleanse your energy, and return to simple grounding practices.

This moon is not asking you to have everything figured out. It is simply inviting you to listen more deeply.

Let what needs to be seen come into the light.

Let what needs to be released leave gently.

Let yourself transform in your own time.
