Ethical Sourcing
Responsibly sourced crystals, chosen with care
At Crystals for WellBeing, ethical sourcing is not a trend for us. It’s a commitment.
Our Crystal Bracelets are handmade by Sarah Hayes, founder of Crystals for WellBeing. Alongside bracelets, we also offer a wide range of personally hand picked stones, chosen slowly and intentionally.
We work with trusted suppliers who share our values around responsible sourcing, fairer labour practices, and respect for the earth. Every piece is selected with care, then cleansed and prepared before it comes home to you.
Because what you carry matters, and so does where it comes from.
Our Approach to Ethically Sourced Crystals in New Zealand
Ethical sourcing can look different across regions and supply chains, and we don’t believe in vague claims. Here’s what we aim for, as clearly as possible:
-
Trusted supplier relationships: We choose suppliers carefully and prioritise long-term relationships over “cheapest available.”
-
Responsible sourcing practices: We look for partners who can speak to origin and handling, and who align with responsible extraction and trade practices.
-
Fairer labour and safer working conditions: Where information is available, we prioritise suppliers who support fair pay and safer conditions for workers.
-
Respect for land and community: We favour sourcing that considers environmental impact and local communities, not just output.
-
Transparency: If we know the origin, we share it. If we do not, we will not pretend we do.
How we choose crystals for the store
Whether it’s a bracelet crystal bead, a statement piece, or a small pocket stone, our approach is the same: choose with care.
Sarah selects crystals with an eye for quality, feel, and the kind of support they offer. We don’t aim to stock everything. We aim to stock pieces that feel considered and aligned.
Many pieces are sourced after purchase. This allows for conscious selection and helps reduce waste, while keeping the process intentional from the beginning.
How we choose suppliers
Before we bring crystals into our store, we look for suppliers who can answer practical questions, like:
-
Where are these stones sourced from, and what do you know about origin?
-
What steps do you take to avoid conflict or questionable supply chains?
-
Do you work directly with miners, small operations, or established distributors?
-
How do you assess labour practices and environmental impact?
-
Can you provide clarity when a customer requests more detail?
We know the crystal industry is complex, and “perfect” sourcing is not always possible. Our approach is to source as consciously as we can, keep learning, and stay transparent.
Our promise to you
-
We will continue choosing suppliers who align with ethical and responsible sourcing values.
-
We will be honest about what we know and what we do not know.
-
We will keep improving our practices as we grow.
-
We will always prepare your crystals with care, intention, and respect.

Ethical Sourcing FAQs
Are all your crystals ethically sourced?
We source through suppliers we trust and who align with our ethical standards. Ethical sourcing is a commitment we actively maintain through careful selection, ongoing conversations, and transparency. If you’d like details on a specific piece, contact us and we’ll share what we can.
Do you know the exact mine location for every crystal?
Not always. Some suppliers can provide detailed origin information, and some can only provide region or country of origin. When we have exact details, we share them. When we don’t, we will say so clearly.
Are your crystals “certified ethical”?
The crystal industry does not have one universal, consistent certification standard across all stones and regions. Rather than making blanket certification claims, we focus on working with trusted suppliers, asking clear questions, and being transparent about sourcing information.
Why does ethical sourcing sometimes take longer?
Many of our pieces are sourced after purchase so we can select with care rather than relying on bulk stock. Ethical, conscious sourcing can also involve smaller suppliers and slower supply chains. We believe the extra time is worth it.
Can I request crystals with known origin information?
Yes. If origin is especially important for your purchase, tell us what you’re looking for and we’ll guide you toward pieces where we can provide clearer sourcing details.
What if I’m not comfortable with natural variation in crystals?
Crystals are natural materials, and variation is part of their beauty. If you have preferences (darker/lighter, more/less patterning, size range), reach out before ordering and we’ll do our best to help.
